[...] The Advoc8 tear blog (run by Forge-er Steven Said) has a prayer request for Aussie single mums in light of newly introduced legislation. I’d heard vaguely about the laws, but certainly wasn’t aware of these direct consequences. [...]

I am a single mum who has to do the job of both parents as they see their father 4 times a year. I pay a mortgage and have full financial responsibility for the children yes he pays maintenance which covers food and a quarter of the mortgage a week. I am on rehabilitation back to work as I have a degenerative spinal disease. The new legislation has opened a doorway for small Employment businesses to earn government dollars while giving us lip service. I would like the government to do a six month study to see how well this legislation has helped single mums be placed into part time work. I would love to work part time but while doing so who is going to pay for extra chiropractic and physio on a weekly basis while I am in the work force and then pay for a cleaner because I could not do both. I want to work, ask any single mum out there being a stay at home mum is hard work, boring and unrewarding once your children have all gone to school. I would like my old job as a Payroll Officer working for the government but you have to work full time for the year to become part time a bit ironic when its the government creating this legislation maybe they should put their hand forward in creating part time jobs for mothers.
