I posted this on my personal blog this morning after hearing some of the debate on the radio.
If you have ever heard me speak or spent some time in conversation with me, and it has made any kind of positive difference in your life, I would like to ask you to pray.
You see, our parliament is debating the new border protection bill at the moment. The leaders of Australia are debating whether we should let people who are in a situation not dissimilar from my parents many years ago, from entering this country.
If the laws that are being debated at the moment existed at the time my father arrived on a boat some 40 odd years ago, the conversations that you and I have had, or the stories that you have heard me tell would never have happened, and the positive difference would not be something that you have experienced.
How are we preventing similar kinds of enrichment to our future generations because of irrational fear and prejudice?
Please pray that our leaders will resist fear and act with grace.
