Do Statistics Lead to Solutions?

The Climate Group have a beta running tracking the weekly greenhouse emissions for the state of Victoria.
“The Greenhouse Indicator provides accurate and real time information on the amount of greenhouse gases produced each week in Victoria from energy use… The weekly greenhouse gas indicator for Victoria is believed to be the first of its kind in the world. It uses actual data to determine an accurate figure for the greenhouse gas emissions produced from the three main sources of emissions from energy: coal, natural gas and petroleum.”
Being a statistics lover, I found it interesting – if not a little disturbing. The question now is, what to do with the information?
Over on Melbourne Metblogs, which is where I found the link, Squirt gave it the ‘Useless but good to know’ label. What do you think?
